As-salam Alaykum Waramotuallh Wabarakutu, dear all and Drs.

Compliments.

Something just strikes my mind on how USFM executives could render research assistant to the scholars that have completed their studies and resumed to work back home (Nigeria) to reduce some challenges that we are facing especially when come to gathering materials for a research article. First, as all aware, most, if not all, Nigerian Universities virtually do not subscribe to international well-recognized peer-reviewed journals. This, among others, is seriously affecting the scholars' research skills. A number of scholars in the universities lack accessibility to recent information on their various fields. Second, it is difficult for many scholars to individually subscribe to the restricted journals owing to their limited resources. Though the governments are doing their best to let the means meet the ends, and the scholars on their part as well are managing to cope with the situation, at least, providing internet services for themselves in their offices, notwithstanding, we all know that provision of research enhanced-infrastructure in Malaysia greatly influenced delivery of our academic excellence.

On this issue, to reduce the challenges of scholarly research face at home, I would like to suggest that USFM should add (or create) a research assistant scholar (hereinafter officer) to the USFM executive members. The main responsibility of the officer in question is to at all time assist the scholars at home to download restricted (not-open access) article(s), as well as getting textbooks, upon request and send. Such assistant will, in a long way, enhance the productivity of the scholars at home. Also, it will enable the ex- and current USFM members/scholars to always connect to each other on the exchange and share of research ideas.

I hope this suggestion would be given full consideration. I wish all the scholars a successful completion in their various fields of studies.

Best regards.

Waalaikum salam Dr,

Thank you for the suggestion. However, we can not burden any one person with this responsibility since all contributions rendered by the executives and members are voluntary.

Notwithstanding, any members on the forum can assist in acquiring such information to our brothers back home. If you or any ex-USFM member requires manuscript full texts or books, just forward your request to the general group and members here will try and provide them when they are less busy.

This functionality has not yet been fully exploited by our brothers and sisters back home, i believe members here in Malaysia will be more than willing to assist as much as they can.

Kind regards,
