Jennifer E. Turpin, Ph.D.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

San Francisco, CA 94117Dear Provost Turpin:
Thank you for agreeing to join the Student Bar Association for a town hall meeting to discuss the U.S. News & World Report Rankings. On Monday, March 18, 2013 more than one hundred students gathered to discuss the rankings. The conversation was thoughtful and productive and at the conclusion of the meeting students were asked to complete a survey to capture general concerns, specific questions and proposed changes. In anticipation of your visit tomorrow, I have attached to this letter a summary of the information gathered at our meeting to provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of student concerns related to the rankings.
Tomorrow's town hall meeting is vitally important for the law school and one of the concerns raised during our meeting and noted in the attached summary is the need for more timely, honest, and transparent communication. The law school faces many challenges and I have no doubt that we will meet them - but we must do so together. It is my sincere hope that you (and Dean Brand) will address as many specific questions and concerns as possible tomorrow, followed by written answers to those questions and concerns that remain unaddressed. The students of the law school stand willing and ready to participate in new efforts or those already underway to ensure that our community continues to move forward.
Again, thank you for agreeing to join us and I look forward to the meeting tomorrow.
All the best,
Jamal H. Anderson
President
Student Bar Association
