I think only those who have account on usf's machines can use
dial-up modems. This implies, at the access verification, the
server name we type in must have domain names ending with .usf.edu
Then, why are we required to type in entire name ?

Also, I used o...@csee.usf.edu, which is a valid email address,
I received email of "dialup advisory". In the message there
was a list of email servers including babbage.csee.usf.edu
and grad.csee.usf.edu. Unlike users on acomp.usf.edu,
which has subdomains such as helios, or brill, oi@babbage.... and
oi@grad.... are identical. Unless csee dept separate users into
two groups, those who belong to babbage and grad, typing babbage or grad
is redundant. I hope admin of dial up modems will reconsider server
name policy.

As the "Dialup Advisory" message stated, the program that resolves the
incomplete addresses is in need of enhancements due to the increase in server
and domain names being put into use. This is no small task as it must also
interact with several other software systems.

Someday, hopefully, it will be much simpler.
