Greetings from the remote reaches of cyberspace!

This is a USF modem upgrade update:

As some of you know, a joint venture between Academic Computing, Central
Florida Regional Data Center (CFRDC), Information Technologies, USF Health
Sciences, and GTE is in the works to bring data modem speeds into the 56K
realm for the USF community.

A tenative schedule of related events has been drafted and can be viewed,
along withother pertinent information, on the Web at:
http://www.acomp.usf.edu/~dialup

If you use USF modems for data connections from home (or anywhere else), you
should go to the above Web page and read the articles about the 56K upgrade.
Several major changes will take place during the upgrade. One of the most
important changes willbe all new modem pool phone numbers. The current modem
pool phone numbers will all go away.

For those wanting to purchase a new 56K modem, there is information on the
dialup Web page about which type to get.

This project will take place over the next two months and you should check the
dialup Web page on a (very) regular basis during this time. It might even be
a good idea to set the initial Web page that your browser brings up first to:
http://www.acomp.usf.edu/~dialup

Everyone who uses a modem during the upgrade process will intermittantly
recieve e-mail to remind them of these changes. You may receive more of these
messages than you thinkis necessary, but we will be trying to get the word to
everybody and would rather notifyyou too many times rather than not enough.
Please just delete any redundant messages...theywill cease when the new modems
have been successfully implemented.
