Combination feature request/reaching out to community for info ...

Occasionally we will have cancellations/field changes for our leagues on late notice.  Right now we can communicate via email blasts or Facebook/Twitter posts, but was thinking it may be most effective in these cases to send a text message to anyone who had opted in & provided us their number.  So, the feature request would be to incorporate this into league administration (player would opt-in as part of registration or as part of their general profile, then we would have a tool to send/schedule a text to anyone who had opted in).

As for the general community - is anyone using any online providers for this functionality currently?  We use Mailchimp for email campaigns and figured a similar service would exist for texting.  I did a quick search and came across http://www.eztexting.com/ which has a nominal pay-as-you-go pricing structure - but was curious if anyone out there was using something currently.

Thanks!

Players can have tweets from a twitter account they're following sent to their mobile.  If your members don't want all your tweets to their mobile, set up a separate twitter account just for field notifications.

I'd like to second what Troy said, as PADA does the exact same thing.  We recently set up separate weather and traffic accounts for PADA on Twitter, for that exact reason.  Another perk is that even if players don't want to receive text messages (or didn't know Twitter can send text messages), most players have smart phones and can just check Twitter directly.

TL;DR

Just use Twitter, it's super easy and free.

Hey Kevin and Troy,

Thanks for helping Kurt out, this seems like a great and very free solution!
