I wanted to start getting the word out about the February Meeting and get a count of users so we now how much pizza to get.  I created an event where everyone can sign-up at usescala.eventbrite.com  If anyone has a better way of doing this please let me know.  Meetup.com charges and so eventbrite seemed like the best free solution.

Also could we get the usescala website updated with the event information and post it to the twitter account?

Thank you,
Ryan Knight

Ryan,

The sign-up page lists the meeting time as

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM (PST)

i.e. it has PST rather than MST.

Best,

Ken

The one thing I am not a fan of for the eventbrite idea, and as a non facebook user, is that it's one more place to give my information to. I'm already a member of several other scala groups via meetup bcz I attend their events.

Good point, if we can just sign-up via the Google+ page we could use that instead.

The eventbrite site does not seem to be responding.

I am looking forward to your presentation.

Thanks in advance

It looks like usescala.eventbrite.com is back-up, could you try again?

Cool. Looks like I'm presenting with you Ryan? Did I commit to that? If so I'd better get my game on ;-)

That is confusing, sorry not sure how to word that.  I more just put your name on there since you are the Director of the Utah Scala Users Group.  I will change it to have just my name to clarify.

We need a better system for the next month, Eventbrite doesn't seem to work great for user groups :)

I agree on the Eventbrite. I use it at work for actual Events and it's great, but yeah.. where's all our web developers at? ;)

Just a reminder that our Meeting is this week and it would be helpful if you know you are coming to RSVP to our Eventbrite event or our G+ event so we can get a count for Pizza. Also, spread the word to anyone else that might be interested in learning about Play!

"Play Framework Development with Scala , a new architecture for asynchronous web development.  Presented by Ryan Knight, a Consultant with Typesafe.

After a brief overview of the Play Framework this discussion will dive into the advance features of the Play Framework.  We will explore what it means to use a non-blocking, event driven model, how it differs from the traditional threaded model of servlets and how that can help applications scale.  The discussion will driven by a sample twitter application that shows the use of the async features along with web sockets to push updates to the client."

The eventbrite page spins forever when I try to sign up.  Can you count me as attending?

I don't know what the deal is with eventbrite, it only seems to work part of the time.  I will add you to the list.

Thank you,

Ryan

Hrmm, not sure why. Here is a link directly to our page and you should see the event in the feed.
If that link doesn't work either, search Google+ for "#utah #scala" and you should find it.

I'm going to try to come this time but leaving for the NEScala conference (nescala.org) Thursday morning may not make it possible.

Well, hope you make it, but if you don't enjoy the conference nonetheless. Will you be able to present in March? on nes or akka or both?

Jeff,
Yes definitely planning to talk about Akka, I can do an overview or go into detail about many topics, and I'll definitely do a code demo.
Count on a 1/2 hour for sure, depending on questions and interest I can do more. Akka is a huge topic, from large-scale parallelism and concurrency, single app to cloud deployments which is what I use it for, so many things to share in future meetings.

I'll do a brief cover of NEScala conference :) The lineup is insane. Sorry I couldn't make it this time and meet everyone.

Thanks,
Helena

Great meeting last night and good to see everyone. Thanks to Ryan for the overview of Play.
