Monitoring of Lightning in Uttarakhand State.

Respected and Dear All, 

Project “ Dynamics of Lightning strikes and movement of the thunderstorm path” funded by Ministry of Earth Science (MOES), Government of India, Damini Lightning Alert app, developed by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology - IITM, Pune, monitors lightning activities for India and alerts users of the exact and probable locations of impending strikes, movement, and direction of thunderstorm within 40 sq. kms.

The app relies on a Lightning Location Network with about 76 sensors across India connected to the Central Processing Unit at IITM, Pune. This network provides exact information about lightning strikes and movement of the thunderstorm path.

Department of Physics, HNB Garhwal University Srinagar Uttarakhand is also part of this project & One of the Lightning Location Network sensor installed at Department of Physics Chauras Campus, HNB Garhwal University Srinagar Uttarakhand.
