PLEASE VOTE by May 11: election election for OSIS steward & alternate

For the past few months on various OSIS calls we have discussed that it's about time to elect a new steward and alternate. We decided to wait until after the close of I5 at the RSA conference to do so.

Now is the time.

Since we've never held elections quite like this before, perhaps the right thing to do is to insert another level of indirection. This email is essentially an election for the election process. Here are some possible election processes:

1. Nominations for steward and alternate accepted when sent to the osis-general mailing list from May 11 to May 18. Voting via the mailing list from May 18 to May 22. This would allow nominees to schmooze voters at IIW -- which may or may not be a good thing.

2. Nominations for steward and alternate accepted when sent to the osis-general mailing list from May 11 to May 25. Voting via the mailing list from May 25 to June 1. This would allow nominees to be coerced into accepting the nomination at IIW -- which may or may not be a good thing. It also means elections would conclude at a steering committee meeting.

One problem with the above is that May 25 is a U.S. holiday and we usually cancel the call then. Since the election would happen on the mailing list, I think this is an inconvenience but not a big problem.

3. Nominate your own election process.

Please reply to this email with a vote of 1 or 2, or a proposed process. We can discuss the outcome on the regular OSIS call of May 11.
