Greetings, Gardening Gang!

I wanted to give y'all a heads up that I'll be doing a gardening talk
for the Great Neck Public Library on July 20th. Although by late July
no one in their right mind wants to hear about more gardening -
something I pointed out to the planners - it really IS the time to
begin thinking about the wonderfully cool gardening months and
everything you can grow during the "off-season".

But to make the most of your fall/winter vegetable garden - to really
get food from your land year around - you need to plan ahead and order
the plants and seeds that will keep you in fresh produce throughout
the winter and into the spring. Now's the time to begin the
conversation -- so I hope some of you will be able to join me. Should
be a very fun time! I'd love to meet you in person if you can make
it!

Info: July 20th at the Great Neck public library. 2- 4 pm. No
charge. For more info or to register, you can just call the library
at (757)385-2600.

Sybil,

How did the gathering go yesterday? I really would have liked to
have been able to join the group, but that nasty four letter word got
in the way. W-O-R-K is so overrated, but a necessary evil I guess.

Hi, Dean!

We had a fun time! There is so much wonderful gardening that we can
do here during the cool months (and it's so much more pleasant to be
in the garden in October than it is Right Now). Tried to fill the
talk with lots of good info and we had great contributions from other
gardeners as well. Perhaps I can get the little Pungo library to
schedule the same kind of talk for a bit later - like this September,
on a Saturday. That's when planting for fall is really getting
urgent. The southside rural area is where a lot of our gardeners are,
so that would be a nice setting.

Which reminds me, I saw a great bumpersticker the other day with a
credit on the bottom to the Eastern Shore. It read: "We're Rural,
Not Stupid." Made me laugh out loud in traffic!!

Oh, that one is priceless; I even chuckeled out loud when I read your note.

I'm happy to hear that you had a good session with some good ol' gardenin' folks on Monday and would definitely be interested in participating in one on a weekend. Although we may be well into the fall/winter season, anytime that information and ideas can be shared...is a great time!

Thanks for the note.
Dean
