Hey MUNers!
Hope you all had a good weekend and as I promised at our meeting I am
emailing out some research sites to help with position papers! I went
our these sites at the meeting Friday so if you weren’t there feel
free to email me back.

For basic background on your country you can use CIA World Factbook.
Make Sure to look under the Economy tab for your exports and import
partners because they will most generally be your allies. Also, the
final tab labeled Transitional Issues will give you some background on
the conflicts in you own country.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/

For basic background on the overall topic for your committees you can
use Crisis Group. The website is very good for issues dealing with
specific countries and security issue but have a look around because
it is great foundational information. You can also just search for
topics on the site which is always great.
http://www.crisisgroup.org/en/about.aspx (This links you to the about
page but across the Regions/Countries tab and the Key Issues tab
should direct you the right place)

News sources are always a great place to find information but you have
to be extremely careful about the bias in many papers. So if you are
the U.S. New York Times is great to use but not so much if you are a
Middle Eastern country. Always try to find the big newspaper for your
country or region instead of U.S. papers. A good overall news source
is Reuters.

Since we are mostly in the United Nations we can gain a lot of
information from their web page. When you open this page you will see
the title Main Bodies in the middle of the page find your body and
look for meeting records as well as resolution or recommendations from
the committee. If you find meeting records where your country speaks
then you are getting pure policy from your country and it will spell
out what your country wants which is great! Other than that snoop
around and search thing because this page is marvelous.

If you are not in a U.N. body such as the African Union they usually
have their own pages… just google your organization.

Lastly, my high school MUN team complied an index of useful and
trustworthy sites that are separated by category so it is usually
pretty helpful if your don’t know where else to get information.
There are also a research 101 guide that some people may find helpful.

So, that’s all for know! Hopes this helps you to get started and we
will be discussing research as well as paper writing at future
meetings so don’t forget to come: Friday’s at 2:30 IPJ map room!!
What you put into this is what you’ll get out of it!!!
