Hello Student Organizations,

I am contacting you because I think your student organization would benefit greatly from sharing this opportunity with your members.
The Trans-Border Institute is hosting a Drug Violence Documentation Data Gathering Project this Saturday and is looking for volunteers.
Do you need research experience? Are you interested in human rights?

This Saturday Serra Hall 156A & B from 9am-3pm
Lunch and a participation gift will be provided!

Come volunteer for the "Data Gathering Project: Drug Violence Documentation" as part of our Justice in Mexico Project.  The research volunteers of this project will track individual homicide cases by geographic region, time, etc. using public reporting from, both, English and Spanish sources. Understanding of Spanish is strongly recommended, though not required.

As a data gatherer, your tasks will consist of:

  • Gathering information about cases of drug-related violence
  • Researching a specific Mexican state or region assigned to you
  • Focusing your efforts on finding all homicides in Mexico involving public officials
  • Using credible online sources of information, in english and spanish: government sources, media sources, NGO sources, etc.

This is a great opportunity to gain data gathering experience, to learn about the drug violence that is currently plaguing Mexico, to help contribute to the extended research conducted by the Trans-Border Institute that has been cited by publications and news sources, such as the Los Angeles Times. We hope to disseminate our gathered data publicly, as well as use it in TBI publications and future research. For more information please visit the following link: Data Gathering Project

If you're interested and would like to participate, please RSVP to Gladys Avalos, glady...@sandiego.edu. Space is limited.
