I originally thought I had time to be in the class, but turns out I can't manage that this semester. Is the club any less time consuming?

Yes, the club is more up to you. You don't have to attend a certain amount of conferences. 

We have a lot of members in the club, because people get involved in MUN based on how crazy their semester is going, and that's perfectly understandable.
