3. USC NEWS (a) UNICEF honors USC president with Spirit of Compassion Award 南加大校長獲聯合國兒童基金會頒發慈悲精神獎 
| UNICEF has awarded USC President C. L. Max Nikias with the Spirit of Compassion Award for his work shaping the minds of a generation of students to be philanthropic, globally minded and informed of the issues that are affecting the world’s children. Nikias received the award at a star-studded Jan. 12 gala at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. The award was presented to him by Marvin Arias, a 2010 alumnus of USC who grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from the USC Neighborhood Academic | Initiative (NAI), an enrichment program that prepares low-income students from areas around USC to pursue higher education. UNICEF honored Nikias in part for expanding USC’s youth outreach and education programs such as NAI. Read More. |

| The National Academy of Engineering will award Andrew J. Viterbi, USC trustee, Presidential Chair and professor of electrical engineering systems and namesake of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, the 2016 Charles Draper Prize for Engineering. The prestigious distinction is accompanied by a $500,000 award. The citation reads “for development of the Viterbi algorithm, its transformational impact on digital wireless communications, and its significant applications in speech | recognition and synthesis and in bioinformatics,” according to the NAE announcement. Viterbi will be presented with the prize at a gala dinner in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 16. “Andrew Viterbi stands among USC’s most distinguished alumni, and his extraordinary innovations have touched countless lives all over the world,” said USC President C. (c) USC law school’s bar passage rate ranks second in California 南加大法學院律師資格考過關比例, 加州第二高 
| The USC Gould School of Law posted the second highest bar passage rate in California — one of the strongest showings in the country. With a bar passage rate of 86.7 percent, USC Gould was second only to Stanford Law, which announced an 88.8 percent passage. Bar passage rates among other top California law schools were 84.8 percent at Berkeley Law, 85.4 percent UCLA Law and 79.8 percent at UC Irvine Law. | USC Gould’s impressive bar passage is especially significant given that the California Bar had the lowest pass rate in years — only 60 percent of first-time takers passed in 2015. Less than 47 percent of overall exam takers passed in the state. “I am extremely proud of our graduates,” said Dean Andrew Guzman. “Our impressive results truly speak to our outstanding faculty and programs that prepare our students exceptionally well.” Read More. |

| Two USC schools are teaming up in a transformative, interdisciplinary partnership to launch programs that will shape communication and technology professionals, combining the strengths of their fields for the 21st century. The first two initiatives of this new partnership by the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering are: | · A new Master of Communication Informatics degree from USC Annenberg and USC Viterbi that explores the most interesting technological phenomena impacting communication of the future, including “big data” and data analytics, virtual and augmented reality, data mining, crowd sourcing, online communities, social media and the use of technology in journalism. Graduates will emerge with fluencies in data, communication and media technologies and with a focus on applications that address real-world problems. · The creation of innovation teams, as part of the new Annenberg Leadership Initiative, to pioneer new digital storytelling tools and methods of delivering news. Led by faculty at USC Viterbi and USC Annenberg, these teams of student engineers and journalists will work in the Julie Chen/Leslie Moonves and CBS Media Center at Wallis Annenberg Hall.
