The new program will prepare entrepreneurs and leaders for global public policy challenges
Meeting global policy challenges requires new levels of coordination and cooperation on an international scale. An inventive new degree program offered jointly by the USC
Price School of Public Policy and
the University of Hong
Kong addresses
the global demand for training and education to shape future
|
|
leaders capable of identifying key resources, creating solutions to complex problems and managing unprecedented change.
The joint Master
of Global Public Policy degree,
launching in June 2017, is the first of its kind, bringing together professionals from government, business and nonprofit organizations across Asia and the Pacific Rim to consider the most complex social and sustainability issues in the region.
“These are exciting, and daunting, times in the global policy arena,” said Jack H. Knott, dean of USC Price.
“The opportunities are boundless, and with them come concerns about sustainability, social justice and governance across international borders. The Master of Global Public Policy degree was developed to help leaders and influencers in Asian-Pacific Rim companies,
governments and NGOs understand the challenges and engage them in an ongoing global policy conversation about where we’re going and the most effective ways to get there.”

(b) USC Trustee David C. Bohnett gives $15 million for residential college

Trustee David C. Bohnett ’78 has pledged $15 million to endow and name a residential college at USC Village.
The David C. Bohnett Residential College will focus on the principles of social justice and community service, and will form part of
a thriving student community that integrates living and learning for up to 320 students as well as faculty-in-residence and student support staff.

The gift also will establish a leadership fund at the USC Price School of Public Policy supporting a fellowship in public policy with
the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and endow a chair in social entrepreneurship at the USC Marshall School of Business.
“David Bohnett is a visionary philanthropist who has consistently
demonstrated his commitment to public service,” said USC President C. L. Max Nikias.
“By empowering society through the next generation of leaders, and enriching civic spirit through understanding, Mr. Bohnett is a
true champion of social justice. His generous gift underscores his enduring passion for USC, and will create a living and learning environment that nurtures personal growth through community action.”

 Nowhere
in the country is it easier to move up the ladder of higher education than in California. The Golden State is home to several prominent universities that accept thousands of transfer students a year, with UCLA the national leader among top-tier schools.
UCLA enrolled 3,167 new transfer students in fall 2014, more than any other school in the top 75 on the U.S. News and World Report list
of national universities. The University of California at Davis ranked second,

青年鋼琴家賈元元將在2016年推出以〈Harmonies
du soir〉為題的獨奏會。上半場作品以夜曲為開端，呈現浪漫樂派作曲家蕭邦與當代活躍的作曲家李伯曼在夜曲創作的不同風貌。李斯特的搖籃曲，全曲圍繞著持續音Db,
處處鑲著精雕的裝飾樂段,
有著恬靜纖緻的氣質，此次將演出1865年的第二版。李斯特的超技練習曲除了要求在各曲中演奏家們該具備的技術，更要能超脫卓越的技術性而展現詩意與感性。在十二首超技練習曲中，比起其他練習曲的炫技華彩，第十一首〈夜曲〉成就了不同層面的對比，展現抒情感性並逐漸鋪陳豐富熱切的色調。下半場由懷爾德改編自拉赫瑪尼諾夫的無言歌，延續著前述詩意與感性，並展現多重聲部緊密的織度。創作於1931年的柯賴里主題變奏曲，為拉赫瑪尼諾夫創作生涯最後的鋼琴獨奏曲作品。以弗里亞
(La Folia) 舞曲為基底，樂曲在各變奏裏展現了多元素材與樣貌。整場獨奏會精彩可期。
