| Leavey Honors Hall will offer academic, cultural and social activities to hundreds of freshmen The Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation, chaired by USC Trustee Kathleen Leavey McCarthy ’57, has donated $30 million to USC to create the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation Honors Hall at the new USC Village. Leavey Honors Hall will integrate USC’s undergraduate scholarship and honors programs to establish a | community of exceptional scholars. Housing both the Honors Residence Hall and the Kathleen L. McCarthy Honors College, Leavey Honors Hall will provide a living space for as many as 600 freshmen honors students and an exclusive program of academic, cultural and social activities. Students will receive regular mentoring from top university faculty, as well as local and international leaders, who will live in the hall or visit the college. (b) USC becomes latest institution to join Spotlight Taiwan 南加大與台灣書院簽署備忘錄, 參與文化光點計畫 The University of Southern California (USC) has become the latest institution to join the Spotlight Taiwan cooperation program with the Taiwan Academy, Los Angeles, to jointly promote Taiwanese culture in the US city, an official with the academy said. Under a recently signed memorandum, the year-long cooperation will begin in October with the screening of nine Taiwanese documentaries, said Chi Tung-yang (紀東陽), director of the Taiwan Academy, Los Angeles, one of the institutions set up by the Ministry of Culture to promote Taiwanese culture abroad. The list of films to be shown includes last year’s Beyond Beauty: Taiwan From Above (看見台灣), a documentary about the nation’s environment featuring spectacular aerial photography; A Rolling Stone (築巢人), which tells the story of an autistic man and his father; and Rock Me to the Moon (一首搖滾上月球), a film documenting the friendship between six families battling rare diseases. (中央社訊息服務20140821 18:12:32) 文化部駐洛杉磯辦事處臺灣書院19日與南加州大學簽署臺灣文化光點計畫合作備忘錄，南加大將以「臺灣紀錄片影展」(Taiwanese Documentary Series)及座談形式，規劃未來一年的活動內容，並自10月起展開。
代表文化部簽署備忘錄的洛杉磯臺灣書院主任紀東陽表示，文化部於加州大學洛杉磯分校(UCLA)之外，再度與位於大洛杉磯地區的重要學府--南加州大學簽署臺灣文化光點計畫備忘錄，除可深耕加州兩岸三地的華人（第二代）社群外，亦希望藉此拓展其他族群對臺灣文化認知。
紀主任進一步表示，該校將分別從家庭與文化、政治與社會及環境景觀等不同議題切入，挑選「築巢人」、「一首搖滾上月球」、「看見臺灣」等9部當代臺灣紀錄片映演，深度探討臺灣多元社會議題，值得期待，也歡迎校內外人士熱烈參與。

(d) Dauterive Hall opens new era for social sciences research 南加大再添一新研究大樓 - Dauterive Hall, 專供社會科學研究用  
| At the grand opening ceremony for Dr. Verna and Peter Dauterive Hall, USC Trustee Verna B. Dauterive MEd ’49, EdD ’66 was overflowing with gratitude. Quipping that she had “about 200 pages of thanks to read,” Dauterive recognized the architects, construction workers, and USC faculty, administrators and staff who helped make the university’s first interdisciplinary social sciences building a reality. Located near the main entrance of the University Park Campus, the six-level, 98,000-square-foot building houses several multidisciplinary centers focused on developing solutions to pressing social challenges. Dauterive committed the landmark $30 million gift for the building in memory of her late husband, Peter W.
