On behalf of the USC Rugby players and coaches, Happy Thanksgiving. We hope that you have a safe and festive holiday surrounded by family and loved ones.
Next Tuesday, December 3rd is #GivingTuesday, the annual global day of giving. Please consider USC Rugby (link here) when donating.
I asked one of our seniors, Declan Farr ’20, to reflect on his time here. Deland has been a stalwart from day 1 and has never, to my knowledge, missed a training or game. By far(r!), he’s our most experienced and knowledgeable player. We’re thankful for selfless players like Declan that enrich our ranks.
Fight On!

Subject: Re: FW: What USC Rugby means to me
I played rugby in high school and knew when I was applying to college that I wanted to continue playing wherever I wound up—I even wrote one of my application essays about playing rugby. In that essay I wrote about the beauty of a group of guys coming together from a diverse set of backgrounds to form a cohesive team with a common goal. I found more of that community than I ever could have dreamed of in the USC Rugby team. From day one USC Rugby has given me a community on the field and on campus. A family with a common passion that has been a source of strength and stability through my four years at USC.
USC Rugby has had several positive impacts on my college career. It has given me a group of friends who will always have my back, a good reason to get my homework done early, and learning experiences that won’t be found in any classroom. To quote my college application essay “finding my physical and mental strength on the field has taught me resilience and determination that carries through the rest of my life”. This was true of my high school rugby experience and continues to be true of my time with USC Rugby.
Although the club has had its ups and downs in my four years, I have never once regretted being a part of it. I have never wished I had skipped practice, never regretted clearing my weekends for games, never thought twice about getting homework done early to go to a social. Because that is the spirit of USC Rugby: doing what needs to be done, whether that’s turning in an essay early so you can go to a tournament, or making a full field try saving sprint in the 79th minute. USC Rugby players work hard and Fight On and I am incredibly proud to call myself a Trojan Rugger.
