How to Select Mixed Team

I’m not sure we’re all discussing the same thing here. It seems to me there are several issues, and they get combined:

1. Pairs or teams - I happen to feel strongly that when you’re selecting for a team event, you should select teams, not pairs - I can’t explain why some collections of pairs outperform and some underperform, but I know that’s a fact. But we could select pairs and put them together on a team. 

2. Voting, online or face to face. Whether you’re selecting pairs or teams, there are these three “pure” ways to do it.

3. Some combination (reading all of this discussion has convinced me this is the way to go) - first have either voting or online to select 4 teams (or 12-16 pairs if you want to do it by pairs), then have a face to face SF and F, probably immediately following the Summer NABC - that’s late given the WC starts a month later, but I just don’t see any other way to fit everything in.
