I’ve been told that BridgeWinners may not be sending emails to members of the ITTC forum when a new article is posted there, so I’m emailing using our “old” Google Group to encourage all ITTC members to vote on the issue of whether to use something other than a playoff to break ties in KO matches.

My post on BridgeWinners is at http://bridgewinners.com/forums/read/ittc/vote-on-how-to-break-ties-in-knockout-stage-matches/ (remember that you need to be logged in to BW to see the forum). The content of the post is:

I couldn't figure out how to do this vote using a BridgeWinners Poll, so please click here to vote on a Google forms poll. The questions are:

  • If a reasonable tie break method is available, KO match ties should be broken without the need to play additional boards. (yes/no)
  • When two teams that tie a KO match played each other in a Round Robin match that was not a tie, the winner of the Round Robin match wins the KO match. (yes/no)
  • When two teams that both played in the Round Robin tied their Round Robin match as well as their KO match, the team that finished higher in the Round Robin wins the tie. (yes/no)
  • When 2 teams that did not both play in the Round Robin tie their KO match, the tie should be broken: (by playing additional boards/ some other way to be decided by a subsequent vote)

If you have questions or comments, you can post them as comments to this article. I'll also return here to remind you to vote if needed, and to report on the result of the vote when a reasonable number have voted. Thanks for helping us decide how to change the USBF General Conditions of Contest about this.

Thanks!

I have never received an email message from BridgeWinners letting me know that a new article has been posted on a forum where I am a member. I receive notifcations only to discussions where I have already contributed or have pressed the "Follow Discussion" button. Has anyone's experience been different?

I don’t get emails for anything, by choice (I prefer to check the “alert” box), but I’m told that forum members who get email alerts for other things are supposed to get them for forum posts. I think BW is working on it.

I used to get emails when you posted things on BW, but not anymore for some reason.

Thank you all for the feedback. I’ll talk with BW about what can be done. In the meantime, please do vote on the tie-break issue!

Emails should now go out to all ITTC forum members when there is a new post.

We upgraded some things on the back end, which may have caused this issue. Sorry.

If you also want emails when someone comments, you can adjust your email settings here: http://bridgewinners.com/preferences/ (by checking this box "Someone comments on content I'm following:").
