USB_focus to the fine knob.

I'm interested in the USB_Focus for temperature compensation of my telescope. To allow easy removal and to return to manual operation of the focuser or storage, I'm intending to use a toothed belt and remove the belt when in hand/manual operation. This is also required for storage of the telescope.

I intend to use the fine knob (4mm spindle) rather then main knob (6 mm spindle). Is there objection/problem using the fine knob except the adjustable range is much (10x) smaller? I prefer this since the forces to turn are much smaller for a robust 3" focuser en probably gives less the hysteresis.

Second question, is there any reason why the software range is limited to 65535 and can it be increased?
