ok this is jus an update of all the minutes from the meeting on sat for
those of u that couldnt make it:
1. Arrival weekend (23rd/24th sept) - we need 5 people to help out on
sat and sun, 2/3 people during the week, and also some people to go to
heathrow and others to receive these international students at uni.
Let us know who can help out! (sunny-shrinash will let u know bout
exaxt times n stuff.)
2. Freshers fair - a booklet/welcome pack thingy is going to be made
and handed out at the freshers fair about the life of asians living n
studying in brighton (but mainly living according to ali!lol!) n its
gonna include an events list for the term. Also brighton unis freshers
fair is on the tuesday (day before ours) which is a good opportunity to
promote!!!
Stall - ok theres gonna be 2hr shifts of 2ppl each from 11-5, -we
neeeeed decorations people!!!!! -so bring saris n other stuff u think
would look good and eyecatching ok! oh yea n sunny dont forget to bring
ur big drum so u can scare everyone away!
3. Garba - there was talk of possibly going to garba on sat 30th.
4. Shisha - shisha party is now on the thursday of freshers week in
mandella hall. Reason being is that union is holding "laid back n
latte" thingy there so that means more people n union is paying for
shisha. Oh n acas people will be there too.
Shisha - 50p
samosas - 25/50p
Then there was talk of people going to sakaras afterwards.
6. Meeting - We're having a meeting in the meeting house (lol how
appropriate!!!) onnn wed 4th oct-6.30, *IMPORTANAT - SOMEONE ARRANGE
CHOCOLTE FOR THE MEETING*
7. Bollywood wednesdays - can someone get hold of some new movies with
english subtitles??
8. Hothouse - long story short, sunny jus do alllll the work for the
hothouse ok,lol! That means talking to dj n sorting out flyers n
anything else that needs doing.
flyers - we decided on getting 1000 professional ones (will get £30
funding) n then we'll print out another 1000 paper ones.
Music - although its a bangra nite we must consider our audience-acas
gonna be there too so it was discussed that we need some variety with a
bit of r&b and hip hop cos otherwise bangra all nite long may put some
people off!
9. Other events - ideas of having a mela and cultural show at some
point during the term.
10. Website - Kavita if u can show ur ideas or something uve done
before to shrinash, he'll have a look n give u feedback on whether its
appropriate.
