Cultural exchange program kick-off at Guangdong Pavilion today
The USA Pavilion sent two student ambassadors to the Guangdong Pavilion to serve as guest staff for one day, while the Guangdong Pavilion sent two staff members to work as guides at the USA Pavilion. Aiming to promote cultural discourse between the two nations, the initiative provides opportunities for the American students ambassadors, mostly college students, to experience the local customs and practices of China’s various regions and ethnic groups at provincial pavilions, while their Chinese counterparts can also find value cultural diversities of the American people at USA Pavilion. “The project is a groundbreaking event at the Shanghai Expo, where people with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds meet and gather together, realizing the philosophies of Shanghai Expo—understanding, communication, togetherness and cooperation,” said Martin Alintuck, President and CEO of USA Pavilion. In addition to the Guangdong Pavilion, similar exchange programs with many other provincial and municipal pavilions are also being organized. “America is the world’s biggest economy, while Guangdong is China’s largest economic provincial power. Both of the Pavilions’ exhibits at the Shanghai Expo have enjoyed immense popularity. The cultural exchange program today gives us an opportunity to strengthen our communication and foster our friendship, enabling the young people to experience multiculturalism and share the joy of our Expo family,” Bai Mingshao, Executive Director of the Guangdong Pavilion remarked. |

August 3rd was a busy day at the USA Pavilion, as we welcomed the United States Shanghai Consulate and special guests for a series of visits throughout the day. In addition to experiencing the show at the USA Pavilion, our guests were given a certificate commemorating their visit, a gift bag, and also drinks, which were courtesy of PepsiCo, one of USA Pavilion’s Global Sponsors. |
【August 13, 2010, Shanghai】As part of the USA Pavilion Cultural Exchange Program with China’s Joint Provincial Pavilions, today the USA Pavilion exchanged two more Student Ambassadors with Beijing Pavilion. Martin Alintuck, CEO and President of USA Pavilion, along with Mr. Xu Yuwei and Mr. Zhou Jinglong, Executive Vice Presidents of Beijing Pavilion attended the event this morning |
Student Ambassador: Jennifer Vos This year in Shanghai, a new means of social interaction has developed and united Expo employees of all cultures and backgrounds. It is a means of interaction that is both brand new and rooted in ancient human history: that of trade. But here, people trade not out of practical necessity, but as a form of social activity; rather than money for essentials, they trade pins for other pins. These seemingly paltry, but extremely coveted, items are an essential component of integration on the Expo grounds, providing one with the impetus to approach and converse with just about anyone, as well indicating one’s inclusion in the encompassing society of pin traders. |
Student Ambassadors Forge Strong Bonds at Guangdong Posted: 16 Aug 2010 11:53 PM PDT
Student Ambassadors: Olivia Mak and Benjamin Cohen Our day began under the cameras at the Guangdong Pavilion as the staff greeted us with a formal welcoming ceremony. We introduced ourselves to the crowd using Mandarin Chinese, immediately followed by a serious Expo pin and gift exchanges between the student ambassadors. Chinese media crowded the entrance of the Guangdong Pavilion as USA Pavilion CEO, Martin Alintuck commented on the importance of this first ever student ambassador exchange.
We are glad we had the chance to participate in the first of many student ambassador exchanges between USA Pavilion and Chinese Provincial Pavilions. We made lasting friendships with the staff at the Guangdong Pavilion. We strongly believe, together we will work towards a prosperous and sustainable future. |
