Hey all. I need some input from fellow race promoters/organizers/
officials. My inquiry is what I should do as a promoter for possibly
changing the distance in the masters category of the Bonanza Creek
Classic.
I used Bonanza Creek's race distances from last year and set the CAT's
according to NM Encantado cup specs. The one thing that was different
this year compared to last years categories was the masters group.
Last year Pedal Queens had 55+ as the masters age. This year the cup
series had the masters ages from 35+ thru 55+. This is where it gets
confusing.
Last year the masters group (55+) did 2 laps which is equal to 37 mi.
Since I kept the distances the same and used the cup series category
groupings (masters of 35+ thru 55+) they will be doing the 2 laps.
I've received 2 emails from masters wanting a longer distance.
I could change the distance, but wondering if only 2 complaints
warrant a change. Have changes to distances been done before, after an
event has been publicly posted? If I make the change in distance, how
would I go about making the change known to the public? I don't want
to make a mess of confusion for the participants.
Thanks for your help and input into this inquiry.

Mickey,

As a master racer (45+) I feel personally that a longer course would be
much better.

On the policy side of the house, I believe, though am not positive, that
a change to the flyer/announcement needs to go through an approval by
USAC. I think an email to Al Watters would clear that up.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Mickey,

Changes can be made to the official announcement even after it's been distributed. Any changes must be approved by Al and because he would have to forward to our CO office so that our insurer would have the changes on record.

With the race date being on 7/27 there's ample time to notify the participants, at a minimum sending out a notice on the NM list serve and even better would be an email to all those who've already registered.

What about having the masters finish on different laps depending on the age group?

Thanks for the input guys!
Pedal Queens did change Bonanza Creek Classic's Men Masters distance
from 37miles to 55.5 miles with Al Watters approval.
