All,

Recently I have received some emails from racers complaining of the
late entry of the SF Hill Climb into the series. The racers are
concerned about their strategic placing in the series, and missing out
on the Hill Climb could see them drop a few places. I don't see a
reason to drop it, there were/are plenty of other opportunities to get
points. But, as a result, Rick Ortega has asked if he can insert a
race into possibly a Aug/Sept slot....a Time Trial to be held in the
El Paso area...put on by Healthmaxx.

So.....air your thoughts. My initial thought is to add the TT, thats
kinda what we wanted anyway, a TT at the end of the year.

Given the slow and uncertain feedback and commitments from promoters during the initial organization of a 2008 road series, it was set up on basically an "opt in" basis.

From the flier:

Quote:

If more than 8 promoters opt in to the series, the series coordinator may elect to use a top X of Y format for final series standings. If so, that will be announced as soon as feasible and prior to the conclusion of the series.

Promoters' Commitments

Promoters wishing to participate in the series must agree to the following:

  1. Prior to their event they will let the series coordinator know they want to opt in.

  2. They agree to follow the series format and structure described here.

  3. They agree to timely report results to the series coordinator in the format shown below.

  4. They agree to timely contribute a $125 participation to help cover series costs.

Unqoute.

I don't see that we put a limit or cap on interested events.  I would say Santa Fe is ok to participate.  If Randy can get a time trial together, I would say it is also ok to participate.

Right now, it looks like there are eight points events in the cup series.  If El Paso come in, that makes 9, que?.  If we get 9 events, what about counting top 7 of 9 events?

Thanks Dave,

What's the big advantage to using 7 out of 9 for the final tally? I would rather keep it straight, every point earned.

Sounds good for the TT, I'm interested to find out prospective locale...maybe bring back the Gap. Thanks for referencing the doc.

The only advantage is to give the racers a couple of drops.  Otherwise racers who have the magical and rare ability to attend every race get to rack up points, perhaps based on more attendance than on competitiveness.

Based on the relatively modest number of series participants, it should be relatively easy to eyeball who has more than 7 events and to omit low scores.

Just a thought though.

During this obvious transition year we should be as inclusive as possible to promote the series and the differing abilities of the racers. A TT would be a great add to the schedule...but where is he gonna put it on the schedule? I don't think the riders will object as long as the criteria for series contention is liberal enough to allow dropped races. With a tt and the add of SFHC the series will be strong at 10 events. Taking the best 7 results will be a good goal since we have a conflict between Bonanza Creek & Frazer Mountain MTB this weekend, a conflict with Gallup Omnium and the High Desert Screamer, and the late additions of this TT and SFHC may hinder peoples attendance at the events. 7 out of 10 is inclusive enough to encourage participation, and will achieve the goal of crowing the best racers in the state.
The best call is to always let 'em race.
