hi gang,
here is the list of promoters who were at the meeting and a few who were not. please check for errors.
do you want to start a promoters' list-serve? it is easy, if people want one.
also, who knows anything about NMBRA?
jb
hi all,
the calendar for 2009 is up at nmcycling.org
if you can take a look for errors that would be great. also, for contact info or other info, and to have links to your race flyer created, send these things to Steve Mathias
smat...@comcast.net
if everyone who is promoting one of the races on the calendar can contact me in the next week, let me know that things are good, then it might be safe to send out the empty dates to the nmcycling list-serve, trying to fill in the gaps.
for that e-mail, i have the following in my notes. please, if you have other items, lemme know.
empty dates:
May 9
June 20 - TP to TA??
June 27 - possible tt promoted by Olev Rapido
August 23 - sunday after Oak Flats State Champ. RR
Is it possible to switch the crest race with the ABQ century?
Is it possible to have La Tierra on April 25 instead of April 14?
Is it possible to move the Bonanza Creek RR to July 18 from July 19?
Will there be a Lobo Classic?
Who has a contact with the Rudioso Century promoters, the Acoma promoters and the Chili Classic promoters?
I also though I would try to summarize the goal of keeping the limited number of races that we have in NM somewhat condensed, to try and create a real 'season' rather than having races separated by large gaps of no racing. We were looking to have races on both weekend days or if not, then on Saturday rather than Sunday (for road races only). Mountain bikers said they were happy with the one day races being on Sunday (course pre-ride on Saturday). And that we also discussed ways promoters might be able to work together, passing out flyers for upcoming races and helping to distribute them to bike shops in other cities. This is probably more important for all our races to have the best chance of good turnouts since we won't have a road racing series for 2009 (Mountain bikers will have a series though).
We chose these things as our first best guesses at how to draft a good racing calendar. If promoters can gather opinions during the season and bring those to the next calendar meeting for 2010, then the goals can be refined. If the road race series is to be revisited, then promoters will have to agree on categories - something that has been problematic in the past. This is an excellent example of the kind of info that promoters can gather during 2009 and
bring to the next year's meeting - opinions about the race series and
the categories that would be offered if a road race series is desired. For 2009, each promoter can decide the categories they will offer for themselves.
thanks again to everyone for their participation
Jennifer Buntz
I'll get a list of names, emails and phone numbers of those at the meeting out to you all soon.
