In September 2006, then EFCC Chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu appeared before the Senate on a report the agency had just released then. He clearly mentioned five Governors as the worst thieving Governors.
Those he mentioned were:

1. Orji Uzor Kalu: I remember how he said the Governor was number one not because it is number one alphabetically but, because he had one of the biggest established cases of stealing, money laundering and diversion of funds.

2. Ahmed Bola Tinubu: I remember how he specially narrated the wicked stealing patterns of the then Governor of Lagos State whom he said his own stealing had an international dimension to it. He berated Tinubu then for being a big thief. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was his Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General then and I can't remember if they sued EFCC or Ribadu for those expressions/exposures beside the press statement of not being surprised by Mr. Dele Alake, Tinubu's then Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

3. Ahmed Sani Yerima: I remember clearly how he also stated that then Governor of Zamfara State was one of the worst cases because in Ribadu's words, the man was fingered as being involved in direct stealing of state funds. He summarized the Governor's stealing as a tragedy.

4. George Akume: He said Akume was not just a thief but a heartless one who even physically beat up the commission’s operatives in the office of the state Commissioner of Police while he tried to recover some incriminating files against him from the operatives.

5. Abdullahi Adamu: Ribadu told the Senators that a case had been established against the Governor whom he said had personalized both the state treasury and the accounts of Local Governments. He said the accusations against the Governor were massive.

Ironically, all the five plus Nuhu Ribadu are very active and influential members of the APC which now derive pleasure in calling any other person outside the party a thief.

Are you surprised? Oshimole made it clear. "Once you join APC, your
sins are forgiven".

Incidentally, Nuhu Ribadu was the Presidential candidate of the ACN in the 16 April 2011 Presidential elections. ACN being the party founded and led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ribadu was reminded of his statement in the Senate in 2006 concerning Tinubu. He retracted the statement and pointed out that Tinubu was not among the ex-Governors that were arraigned and charged in courts for corruption in July 2007. In other words, Tinubu would have been arraigned and charged to court as he did to others if investigation had shown that he was corrupt.

All other four ex-Governors mentioned below are among those whose  corruption cases, since 2007, are still pending in Courts today. No corruption case has been withdrawn against any of those who crossed from PDP to APC which was why Joshua Chibi Dariye and Jolly Nyame, Governors of Plateau and Taraba States respectively were each sentenced to 14 years imprisonment last year by a Federal High Court, even though they have been APC members since 2015.

Salimoni Kadiri,
Do you expect any reasonable person to sincerely believe that the second statement you claim was made by Nuhu Ribadu, under the circumstance he made the statement should be more credible than the first statement?

The statement in the Senate was credited to Nuhu Ribadu in 2006. When the tenure and the immunity of the Governors expired in May 2007, Nuhu Ribadu as the head of EFCC filed corruption cases against about 32 Governors. Tinubu was not among them because there was no evidence to arraign and charge him for corruption in 2007. Lack of arraignment and prosecution of Tinubu in 2007 as it was done to other Governors actually invalidated the statement said to have been made by Nuhu Ribadu on Tinubu in the Senate in 2006. What Nuhu Ribadu said in 2011 that Tinubu was never arraigned and charged to court for corruption in 2007 because there was no evidence as such was an affirmation of what actually happened. Only a non-adult person would deem the affirmation of that reality incredible.

Accused persons are not always prosecuted.

There are reasons for that, other than the reason of lack of evidence.

Most times, the reason is political.

On the contrary, suspected persons are not always prosecuted simply because there are no evidence to obtain conviction. When a person is accused of any legal infraction, there must be evidence to prosecute the person otherwise the accuser (s) would be liable to false accusation.

Can you share with me which political reason(s) made EFCC not to prosecute Bola Ahmed Tinubu for corruption in 2007 unlike his Governor's colleagues?

Bola Tinubu was a prominent member of the (politically) influential "Peoples Democratic Movement(PDM), founded by Shehu Yar'Adua and inherited by Atiku Abubakar when Yar'Adua died.

PDM was very protective of its members, in spite of differences in political party affiliations.

PDM in 1999 provided the political platform on which Obasanjo ran for and won the Presidency. This catapulted Atiku, who had already won the governorship of Adamawa state to the position of Vice-presidential candidate and subsequently, to Vice-president.

For the first four years of the Obasanjo presidency, Atiku ran the administration and used this position to protect PDM members across political parties, so much so that when Obasanjo attempted to run Tinubu out of Lagos State government house, Atiku refused and Tinubu survived the onslaught.

The PDM members in government continued to protect Tinubu, up to the point where he was able to created formidable political and media platforms, which he has been using to negotiate further protections.

Making Nuhu Ribadu and Atiku Abubakar presidential candidates of his political party and providing financial war chest for the Buhari presidential endeavour in 2015 are some of the Bola Tinubu continued efforts to evade prosecution for corruption.

Brother Poet,

Now that you have waxed lyrical on Bola Tinubu's corruption, please do the same on Abubakar Atiku's mega corruption.

Or your poetry sees no evil and hears no evil? Your embrace of the PDP and it's deeply corrupt tendemcies is obvious. You are tainted along with the villainous treasury looters you have chosen to embed with.

Cheers.
