Tony Allen, rest in peace and glory, the list of contenders is long, and he is absolutely one of the great jazz drummers – what a drummer! Especially with his wide-ranging percussionist touch; prior to him Elvin Jones was the most African of Jazz drummers. HE will be dearly missed in the studios and among some of our great contemporary performers, players, music lovers …
Sad that we will only listen to his latest, posthumously. In fact I got his double CD Tony Allen & Africa 70 - Afro-Disco Beat two months ago but haven’t found the time to listen to it. Will have to postpone that listening to some less emotional moments…
