This is an instructive reminder to our friends who pretended not to hear nor care when the earthen ware pot was cooking yam but who are now extremely agitated when the mortar is pounding the yam.
Our constitutional freedoms come with serious self restraints. If there are no checks and balances, an individual's right to free movement could include his freedom to walk into a rail line or towards an on coming vehicle on the high way. An individual's right to free choice could also include the right to cut off the head in order to cure a headache.
Our society's pursuit of freedom must be empathetic. This is the factor of success in advanced countries. A former Presidential Aspirant, who lost an election, who was indicted and disowned by his party for financial mismanagement and who suddenly turned an activist, cannot eat his cake and have it. Once he participated fully in an electoral process, he could not turn around to plot the destabilization of the same country.
The implication of this is clear. If he has won the election, he would be repressive, dictatorial and unaccountable.
Government has to be criticised at every level. Such criticisms, however, must be constructive, therapeutic and prophylactic. The facts must be indisputable such that Government is put on its toes. The Buhari led Government has been very receptive to such criticisms. To operative from the hateful level of nothing has happened in Nigeria is unpatriotic and treasonable.
