Fair enough, according to Trump’s St. Paul, “Faith comes by hearing”, and although
we still can’t ascertain whether it was Abraham Lincoln or Mark Twain that said “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt”, this much is certain : Kamala Harris has spoken (this is the first time that I have ever heard her speak) and this her Acceptance Speech on the last day of the Democratic National Convention has removed all doubt for those who believe that a leader must have an IQ, a vision of unity, a dream that is attainable, within reach, whilst waiting for the details of plans that are feasible, all for the benefit of her people…
It’s worth paying close attention to some of the foreign affairs issues that she takes up at the tail end of her speech - here’s the transcript
The stage is set as we enter Act 2 Sc 2 of the Donald vs Kamala saga
( I just noticed that Ka-ma-la rhymes with O-ba-ma the Kenyan-American ( Luo father) probably an additional reason for Trump’s vision : “Our country is going to hell” at this stage and at the rate the United States is being invaded and taken over, swamped by illegal aliens. It’s 2024 and we still haven't heard one of Trump’s favourite refrains from back in 2016, that he was “going to drain the swamp in Washington DC” It’s 2024 and we haven’t heard much from his former propaganda campaign chief Alex Jones of InfoWars fame
( Over there in Merry England a similar sentiment was polluting the air - immigration was one of the major issues that resulted in Brexit , but even after Brexit the xenophobia and the fear increased somewhat with some of the blue-blooded Brits complaining it appeared that geezers from the Indian subcontinent were gradually taking over - first you had Sadiq Khan (of Paki-stan, Muslim ancestry ) as Mayor of London , and, is if that was not enough, just a few weeks after Boris Johnson ( a former Mayor Of London) resigned, Rishi Sunak ( India, Hindu) replaced him as the UK’s Prime Minister, while Leo Varadkar , also Indian ancestry, served as Teachta Dála of Ireland ( 2017 - 2020 and 2022 - 2024)
In the United States, Trump ( the devil you know) of course is not going to say “ Give the she-devil her due”:
Trump reacts to Kamala Harris acceptance Speech - in the US -American context referring to her as a "Marxist " is probably not an exaggeration - a lefty in the American context is a little different from a lefty in e.g. Europe , just ask Slavoj Žižek
Cornel West reacts to Kamala Harris' acceptance Speech
Really appreciate you sharing Prof. West’s interview on these issues. He is still fighting strong for the Cause. While MalcolmX will always be my center, meeting and interacting with Prof. West in my early years at university and specifically while I was working in state government, had a major impact on the way I framed my future studies and career path.
One thing that strikes me, is that truly great people never have a need to flaunt it, just like Prof. Falola, Prof. West is a magnanimous and kind person.
Peace,
Jamaine

About personality, artistry, style, aesthetics, you are absolutely on the ball that
“truly great people never have a need to flaunt it” - like Michelangelo…
Here are some examples that come to mind as role models for mankind:
Muhammad ibn Abdullah - the Greatest - and he wasn’t blowing his own horn, as testified by others
Alexander the Great
Cyrus the Great
Jesus of Nazareth & Muhammad Ali
“Float like a butterfly sting like a bee –
his hands can't hit what his eyes can't see.”
And, as we know, it’s not just any tom, dick or harry that can become POTUS, so, of course, salutations to the patriotic Donald J Trump, the 45th President of the United States who wants to MAKE AMERICA GREAT & MIGHTY AGAIN - on the world stage
BTW , as I have said before, I don't have a dog (either male or female) in the race, and in case that was not understood, let me be clear : I don’t give a rat’s tail who is or is not elected the next president of the United States.
In the meantime, yesterday, having gone through
Obama’s Proxy Presidencies: No, You Can’t! - Are we in for a fourth Obama term in 2025? (published in American Thinker ,
and What Kamala Harris Didn’t Say ( an interesting splash in National Review :
for balance,
I’m looking forward to the next instalment of Our Unfinished Work

Chidi,
Be fair. You’ve got a right to shout, so, Stay Black
I don’t know where you stand in that age-old conflict / dissonance between Negritude and Tigritude - not that those two schools are at loggerheads as is the tussle between Trump and Harris, but I’ll tell you this: the innocent or not so innocent Swedish babe finds herself on the bikini beach, as a tourist in Italy, wants to light her cigarette, and the beach bum - the wannabe Marcello Vincenzo Domenico Mastroianni Cavaliere di Gran Croce OMRI smiles and asks her, in perfect Italian, “Most beautiful, sweet, blonde and blue eyed woman, what is your name?” She answers, “ Eve” , he is delighted to introduce himself: “And I am Adam!” - O Sole Mio !- he bursts into song : It’s Now or Never ! - C'mon Baby Light My Fire ! light! Light! Light! ( Trump says, Fight! Fight! Fight !) and then he pounces !
He does not waste precious time telling her about when he was doing his Ph.D. on the Petrarchan Sonnet at M.I.T.,( boring) or about his considerable presidential endowment and so forth - he says that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and, like much of American Foreign Policy, he shoots first and maybe , asks questions later. As you know, Send the Marines and Bomb! Bomb! Bomb! is standard US policy. They (the Marines ) are already stationed at key locations all over the Middle East, just in case shit happens.
Professor Jamaine’s emphasis was obviously on modesty, maybe even humility , along with the sense of dignity, some kind of American ( Protestant Ethic) or Aristotelian virtues and that’s what she probably means by “not flaunting it”, if truth be told, like Stormy Daniels flaunting her great rump in front of Trump.
I suspect that it’s not all the great ones that did “strive to achieve greatness”
As our great friend William Shakespeare put it in Twelfth Night, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them”
In the department of greatness, there are many different genres and spheres of both notoriety and fame. There are all the Nobel Prize categories, which are rewarded annually. In Literature for example, I doubt that all the laureates so far have been consciously doing their thing, with a Nobel Prize or two in mind. I’m quite sure that the prize book e.g. Dylan, completely by surprise.
On the jazz scene, Bird's Word
In the entertainment business and the performing arts we have the likes of crowd-puller Beyoncé and Taylor Swift who were falsely advertised to be showing up for Kamala Harris’ Gala, her maiden address to the already converted in Chicago.
In the performing arts on the popular stage, showmen like Soul Brother Number One, James Brown, still one of the most interesting pop-guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, our King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey, everybody’s Bob Marley, and personally, I’m still mourning Nene Tchakou

Of course, medically speaking or with the help of a little black magic there’s always the option of either exhuming or resurrecting the literary remains of some of the main proponents, adherents and practitioners of the Negritude philosophy, such as Aimé Césaire, the other negritude poets and fast forward you must include the Senegalese tigers who pounce as much as the Anglophone tigers of e.g. Nigeria . Just see how the Negritude tigers are pouncing in Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Senegal : It’s Ashiko and Tarzan is leaving the jungle
So, historically that’s where you could begin when you want to trace the humble origins of the superiority complex that has come to be known as White Supremacy and take note that Negritude is not a reaction to those presumptions.
In the USA just now we have a Black woman as the Democrats' presidential candidate referring to her rival, the Republican , a racist . What a country!
Dr. Oohay,
Hopefully, nor should anyone have the temerity to suggest that much of The Harlem Renaissance “rests on I C (inferiority complex) “
We’ve gotta clear the air about this. As Nina Simone sang , Don't let me be misunderstood - which the cynical understanding was wont to translate as please don't let me be “Miss Under Stood “
What a difference just one word can make! Therefore, I want to make THIS VERY IMPORTANT CORRECTION. My last sentence in the previous post should read
“In the USA just now we have a Black woman as the Democrats' presidential candidate referring to her rival, the Republican , as a racist . What a country! “
Kamala Harris? Be not deceived
It has been a critique of Brer Senghor ( New York), guilty of singing the praises of the Black Woman whilst being married to a white one. I suppose that ditto could be said about Negritude’s Kamala H, no doubt at Howard sometimes singing the praises of the Blackman’s thing and now hitched up with Lord Douglas…
And how do you like this piece of ribaldry / uncle-tom-foolery 👍

Re - “ I didn’t do shit for Black People, and they still love me” , not true, not true ...
There was for example Keb Mo performing “ Henry “ at the White House - and that was something !
Also, Barack Obama awarded 118 Medals between 2009 and 2017.
