PROFESSOR ADENIKE AKINJOBI TO INTERVIEW THE ALAAFIN

 

 

 

 

Professor Adenike Akinjobi was born in 1965 to the royal family of Late His Highness, Oba Mathew Bamiteko Orimogunje, the Onigogo of Igogo Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria.

 

She had her first degree in Education and English from the University of Ilorin in 1987. Her Masters in English (Language) and a doctorate in Linguistics are from the University of Ibadan in 1991 and 2004, respectively. She got trained in speech acoustics at Harvard University in 2004 as a visiting scholar to the Department of Linguistics on MacArthur/University of Ibadan Staff Development Grant.

She is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), among other professional bodies.

 

Adenike Akinjobi is presently a professor at the Department of English, the University of Ibadan, where she is the chairperson of the University of Ibadan English Language Clinic Programmes, a project aimed at alleviating the deteriorating state of the English Language in Nigeria. She is a phonetician/phonologist, sociolinguist and researcher with about 65 publications.  Her current research focuses on two major areas: Nigerian English phonology and social network interactive learning, which is a remarkable trend in today’s education. She administers three active academic forums and a page on Facebook, a social networking site – English Language Clinic forum, Scholars of English Linguistics’ Forum and Nigerian Phonologists’ Forum and English Language Forum –UI.

 

Adenike is a writer of educational texts (across levels of education), children's literature, and a dramatist with three short plays: Family Secrets, Rags to Riches, and Mirage. Family Secrets was nominated for the ANA/NDDC prize in 2005.

Adenike Akinjobi is an English speech trainer, a jingle/documentary voice and a documentary and academic film director and producer. She is a public speaker and public affairs commentator, a remarkable motivational speaker who has delivered numerous speeches at events, both academic and social.
