I am greatly distressed to share the heartrending news of the death of Professor Christine Ohale's son on December 23, 2019. Professor Ohale, a professor of English at Chicago State University, is an active although silent member of this group.

Professor Ohale is a very private person and probably wouldn't appreciate my sharing this unbearably horrible news with the group, but I just can't keep it to myself. My apologies, Professor Ohale.

I've been distraught since she shared the news with me today, and one of my coping mechanisms is to share the news with others.

I believe that in moments like this, we need all the emotional support we can get. Please reach out to her if and when you can. Her email is coh...@csu.edu

For people who live in the Chicago area, see below the order of events for her son's funeral:

4900A S. Lake Shore Dr. Chicago, IL 60615

It is my greatest wish that you are able to summon the emotional strength to cope with this terrible loss. May your son's soul rest in peace.

Thanks for sharing this, Farooq!

My heart bleeds and goes out to Professor Ohale at this difficult time. May all those this young man has left behind be comforted. And, as we pray in Yoruba, "May our days be poles apart in answering the same call." Be of good courage, sister. It is well!

Dr. Tochi David Konyeaso Ohale was laid to rest on Saturday, January 4, 2020. The ceremonies were well attended. Many academic colleagues turned up from Europe, Canada, West Indies and Nigeria to support his parents, Dr. Levi Ohale and Professor Christine Ohale. I am not speaking for the family but just as someone who was touched at the funeral ceremonies by the personal testimonies of his good deeds. One of you said at the repast, “we can weep at the burial of other people but we cannot attend our own funerals” and I added, “in human form,” because I believe that Tochi is now in heaven and saw everything.  He is survived by his parents, nephew, niece and siblings including his twin brother. Again thank you.
