I’m pleased to share my latest column in the TMBC Business Magazine, titled “Political Economy for CEOs: Navigating State - Corporate Tensions.”
The piece examines how today’s CEOs must move beyond profit metrics to engage with the political and economic systems that shape corporate success. Drawing lessons from Microsoft, Tesla, Safaricom, and others, it argues that modern leadership requires interpreting government priorities as strategic signals, and viewing corporations and states as co-stewards of prosperity.

Your thoughts and reflections are most welcome.

Hello John,
This is a brilliant article. You’ve expertly shown why it’s so important for a CEO not only to drive growth and meet financial targets, but also to think and work politically while rooting the organisation’s operations in society.
Thanks a lot for sharing.
Cheers,
Tobe
