Leadership positions require men and women of exceptional intelligence quotient. That is why a leadership imperative requires those with average intelligence to always submit their fate into the hands of the few with above average intelligence. The idea being that these few would always come up with policies that would be beneficial to all. This, however, is what is obtainable in climes that are sane, our clime seem to be far from sane.
The decision of the Rivers state Executive Council "to close all markets in the state" as announced by the state governor, can be described as one of those decisions that are not well thought out, its good intention notwithstanding.
Majority of the inhabitants of the state, like every other state in Nigeria are traders with no other means of livelihood. These traders were mostly retrenched workers.
Considering the above, it is surprising that the men and women who made up the Rivers State Executive Council could think of "closing all markets in the state", without thinking of measures to cushion the effects of the closure.
Granted that the Rivers state Executive Council is trying to save the life of the people, but by not fixing palliatives into the situation, the survivors of coronavirus in River state Nigeria may be killed by hunger and depression.
