Prof. Ilesanmi Adesida to join the Panel Discussion on Research, Innovation, and Development, March 15, 2026
Ilesanmi Adesida is a distinguished scientist/engineer and an experienced academic administrator. He, most recently, served as the University Provost and Acting President at Nazarbayev University (NU) in Kazakhstan which is the leading institution in Central Asia. His efforts were instrumental in propelling the young institution into the top 25% of research-intensive universities in the 2025 Times Higher Education’s World University Ranking. Previously, he served as the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and as the Dean of the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
He has served as the President of the IEEE Electron Device Society (EDS). He is a Fellow of many professional societies anda member of the United States’ National Academy for Engineering. He is currently interested in issues of higher education leadership, STEM education, research and innovation, entrepreneurship, and their relevance to the development of nations.
