Dear friends,

Those who’ve read _Writing African History_ (2005) may recall the brief chapter about local history in Africa. It was by the late Bala Achi and talked about his experiences researching the history of his own people, the Atyap, in central Nigeria. It mentioned the problems the project faced as well as the successes it had had. Bala’s bio blurb mentioned that it was unknown whether the book would ever come out.

I am happy to announce that _A Short History of the Atyap_ was published in late 2019 and was launched in Abuja by Bala's daughter, Nevan.

More information about the book can be obtained from her at neva...@yahoo.com

Bala Achi was also recently honored with his own Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bala_Achi
