The Philosophy of Nimi Wariboko
The University of Texas at Austin and Boston University are pleased to announce a conference (via Zoom and Webinar) on the “Philosophy of Nimi Wariboko,” covering the major themes of ethics, economy, society, religion, and African social traditions. The conference will hold on Saturday, November 21, 2020.
This conference is called to both celebrate the publication of the book, Toyin Falola (ed.) The Philosophy of Nimi Wariboko: Social Ethics, Economy, and Religion (2020), and to advance the conversation on the scholarship of Dr. Nimi Wariboko. The book offers transdisciplinary engagement and assessment of Wariboko’s work. The conference is called to further advance the emerging conversations on one of the world’s most original thinkers. Participants are expected to offer fresh ideas and lively engagements with Wariboko’s thoughts in addition to a wide range of scholarship in the areas of philosophy, ethics, theology, economic history, Pentecostal studies, and African studies.
Professor Wariboko is a globally renowned transdisciplinary scholar, whose scholarship has been very influential in the academy and outside it. He is an excellent theorist, theologian, ethicist, and philosopher. He is also an excellent economist whose studies have impacted the understanding of African economic history and corporate management. For years, he was an investment banker on Wall Street and in Lagos, Nigeria. He has been a financial and strategy consultant to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Central Bank of Nigeria, even as he continues to work as a theologian and social ethicist. Wariboko is a prolific scholar, having published 20 monographs and co-edited six volumes, all of this in addition to multiple published papers and chapters in edited volumes, as well as a global academic lecture schedule that is as grueling as it is extraordinary. Wariboko is one of the most exceptional thinkers of our generation. He is the Walter G. Muelder Professor of Social Ethics at Boston University.
