Hoax or not, it is not beyond some Nigerians’ foolery to act so strangely as to be grotesque. Who is to say that some wealthy Nigerians have not buried their dead in caskets that cost more than a brand new car- Hummer or not? What better could they do with stolen public funds in the event of death in their families? Some of them have been known to fly home their dead in private or chartered jets from their overseas’ places of their death. For them, their dead must not endure the indignity of returning home as human cargo with regular travelers. There is the added embarrassment of not being able to boast about flying their dead home by private jet. Funerals, for this class of Nigerians, is a business showcase that serve at least two purposes- flaunt their stolen wealth, and arrange future business meetings. Given the wanton waste of money and time that characterize burial of the dead by rich Nigerians, a Hummer in place of a casket would be no more than another bizarre statement on their foolishness. Why for example would they not set up educational endowments, and public good foundations and trust that will do evident and enduring good in honor of their loved ones as part of a dignified funeral? Is it because it is not the stupid thing to do? I wonder.

Hoax or not, it is not beyond some Nigerians’ foolery to act so strangely as to be grotesque. Who is to say that some wealthy Nigerians have not buried their dead in caskets that cost more than a brand new motorized vehicle- Hummer or not? If the preferred container for burying the dead is a metal casket, why not a luxury sedan, saloon car, or truck? The ancient Egyptian entombed their dead kings in pyramids did they not? What better could some of some rich Nigerians do with stolen public funds in the event of death in their families? Some of them have been known to fly home their dead in their private or chartered aircrafts from their overseas’ places of death. For them, their dead must not endure the indignity of returning home as human cargo with regular travelers/plebeians. They reject the embarrassment of not being able to boast about flying their dead home by charted private jet aircrafts. Funerals, for this class of Nigerians, are business showcases that serve at least three purposes- intimidate their neighbors, flaunt their stolen wealth, and arrange future business meetings. Given the wanton waste of money and time that characterize burial of the dead relatives by rich Nigerians, a Hummer in place of a casket would be no more than another bizarre statement on their bewildering foolishness. Why for example, would they not establish educational endowments, public good foundations and trust, and other legacy projects that will do evident and enduring good in honor of their dead as part of dignified funerals? Is it because that would not the stupid thing to do? I wonder.
