It is indeed a welcome development that Nigerians on these forums are now becoming more comfortable using their own languages to address those who understand them!

Please let's keep it up! For the sake of our African cultures, and our offspring! Our languages are part of their Cultural Heritage!

Those opposed to using Nigerian languages on NaijaForums can go and start their own "ENGLISH ONLY" Naija Forums - No African Languages Allowed!

Let them start their own "apartheid" regime against themselves!!!

Must we be responsible for the DEATH of our African languages and cultures?

Mba! O ti o! God forbid bad thin!

Ezue ka a ha eri udele, atọọtue ngịga. You captured it all when you called it "selfless, thankless but worthy." You are right! When you, Dr. Anakwenze and Mazị Ụkegbu called me on this appointment though asynchronously, I reasoned that 'Onye ụmụnna ya sịrị ya gawa, ọ ga-eje.'

I humbly accept to serve CISA in leading the Igbo Social Council (Culture, language, family & traditional values, youth and sports). Ọchị dị mbụ agụ, ruekwe mgbe ihe ọchị mere! Omenala na Ọdịnala ndị Igbo ga-adịgidee rue n'ụwa ebighịebi!

My Dear Ndi'gbo Brothers and Sisters.

I am humbly honored and privileged to announce the appointment of the following servant-officers to pilot the affairs of The Council of Igbo States in America ( CISA) for the year 2010.

During the Teleconference Meeting of Presidents and Representative of the National Igbo State Association USA, held on Tuesday February 9th 2010,the nomination and approval of the nominees were carried out. After contacting and discussing with the individuals concerned, I then reported the positive feedback to the Presidents as directed, at that point, it was unanimously agreed that I should announce the names of the Appointees.

I would like to seize this opportunity to initially, thank Almighty God, who divinely in His infinite mercy and wisdom has been directing the affairs and well being of this Council-CISA, since it was founded. I would like to acknowledge the immense selfless and thankless but worthy services rendered to Umu'gbo both in Nigeria and Diaspora by my undaunted, courageous and "workaholic" predecessors. Space and time would not permit me to name all those who have also contributed in no small measure to keep the "flag flying".
You have not only made Ndi'gbo proud but jealously envied by other ethnic group, a case in point is the recently concluded Anambra Gubernatorial election, though with few flaws by INEC was adjudged by both national and international electoral observers as Free, Fair and Credible. Thanks to CISA member State ASA-USA for making CISA proud, you have transparently shown what it takes to make a governmemnt accountable to its people and a " modus operandi" to a Non-Do-or Die election process.

I say, thank you all for your dedication to Igbo Noble Cause and with God on our side the Igbo Nation would RISE again and regain its premier, rightful and proper position in Nigeria..... ...Amen .

Please DO NOT stop using Yoruba within this forum.  Although I do not understand the language I enjoy reading the words, repeating them to my Yoruba friends, and attempting to capture the sound and cadence of this language.  Why?  First and foremost - It's Fun!  Second - concentrating on something that is completely out of one's experiential realm is guaranteed to turn your brain "on."  Last - It is always astonishing to me how much of the language sounds I am able to pronounce correctly regardless of the fact that I have had NO instruction.

Yoruba somehow "fits" into the manner in which I learned English.  Now if I could only find time to buy a dictionary.  I always have the feeling that my Yoruba friends are telling me to say bad things and thereby taking advantage of my ignorance.  HAH!
