I am in Ado-Ekiti since the voters registration started last week in Nigeria .
There is a registration centre about five minutes walk from my
residence but I have
not gone there yet .
We all know that registration is not all that technologically or mentally
challenging . Also we know that we dont need divination to register voters .
However Orunmila has long ago told us that we shall reap what we sow .
Let the show of shame stop or continue .

Dear Colleagues,
I went to my town, Idofin-Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Kogi State yesterday to register. There was a long que but the elderly were allowed by the youth to go right away to register because the tradition to respect elders is still being practised.
Before I went to register I was told that it was four days ago that the registration started in my LGA. The reason was that the machines and the INEC staff were not sent to the area. So the registration in my LGA did not begin until a week after the initial take off on15th January, 2011. I was told that the first day the INEC came to Idofin-Isanlu, they were not able to register anybody because of the malfuction of the machines they brought. On the second day the registration began without much difficulty. The only problem was that the machine that does the finger print was very slow.
In spite of those issues the people complained about there were no other hiches at all. What the people are concerned is whether INEC will extend the closing date, 29th January, 2011. If INEC fails to extend the date, it means many of my people at Idofin-Isanlu will not have the opportunity to register and vote for the people the want to represent them. If however INEC extends the date it means my people will have a say in the upcoming elections.
Let say that from my observation, I think INEC has done a very good job. For the first time in our history we are able to register using Direct Data capturing machines.
My community was enthused and everyone is ready to give INEC all the patience necessary to achieve it objectives.
Before I left home this morning I asked INEC adhoc staff their impression of our hospitality. I was told that the people treated very well. They commended the community for good caring.
If we are all patient and reduce our negative comments on INEC performance, I think it will encourage INEC to do much better.
