Please don’t mention lynching, because this afternoon my son who had the honour of interviewing Steve McQueen at the Stockholm Film Festival showed a clip, the lynching scene from 12 YEARS A SLAVE ; Better Half & I happened to be sitting in the front row ( ringside seat, mother’s and father’s privilege) McQueen himself left the stage during the showing of the clip, and for me too the scene was so raw - call it empathy-thru-identity, the reason why the scene is still circulating live through my mind-body-heart stream. I’ve just glanced through Financial Times and can confirm that Her Majesty Gloria Emeagwali subscribes to the same general paranoia about payback time, about Trump said to be planning to visit some divinely sanctioned retribution on those who unjustly insulted, defamed, libelled & slandered, pursued & witch-hunted, persecuted & prosecuted, even tried to assassinate him. No doubt, the roots of the paranoia are to be found in Mishlei /Proverbs 28 :1 : “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion”
With regard to your anxiety about the attributes of Trump’s appointees - according to you, “anti- China, anti- Iran, pro- Israel war hawks” - I’d say that in terms of “knowing your enemy”, such attributes in and of themselves create the kind of necessary awareness of the character of the US Military Doctrine - an awareness that is generally considered the first step in creating the kind of mental alertness / consciousness that is also the first stage of deterrence at least in the mind of who or whatever could be the enemy of Great America, so that the revolutionary zeal of the enemy may be tempered by some sanity/ wisdom / sense of caution , less of the David conquering Goliath fantasy. As Trump has told us numberless times, if it had been him and not Sleepy Joe Biden that had been sitting in the saddle, then (1) things would not have got or gotten out of hand to the extent that Putin would have initiated his military operation in Ukraine, and ( 2) for a surety, perish the thought that Hamas would have ever contemplated let alone planned and actually executed what they perpetrated, namely the 7th of October Massacre - the second biggest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust
As they themselves must now know& regret, sadly, retrospectively, sometimes, discretion is indeed the better part of valour. The lesson learned or yet to be learned is that any signs or signals of weakness invite aggression from the enemy - and the scale of what was perpetrated on October 7th seems to have been carried out oblivious of the kind of retaliation that was certainly to be expected if they were at all aware of what’s known as Israeli Military Doctrine.
You remember the fear that Kenneth Harrow stated on 10th of October, 2023:
“This “war” is an abomination. The israeli repression of the people of gaza was, is, awful. But the action hamas et al have taken will result in reprisals where thousands of gazans will die. The decision to unleash this was an enormously bad one. The consequences will not be a universal uprising against israel; it will be deaths to be counted in large numbers of palestinian bodies, with about 700 israelis to boot. Biko’s statement about war being good for nothing, and jawing always better, is completely right. Ken”
I should just like to add that in certain circles, the Biden-Harris enterprise is regarded as merely an extension of the eight years of the Great Obama who some say has been in the background, pulling the strings all along and that in practice, if the American people had granted Harris-Waltz a reprieve, it would have merely meant four more years of Obama & Old Man Biden, in all totalling 16 years of Obama which would have caused Ta-Nehisi Coates to have extended his We Were Eight Years in Power to WE WERE SIXTEEN YEARS IN POWER under the Harris -Waltz canopy, it was certainly an unmitigated disaster because we didn’t do jack shit , hence Trump’s landslide victory. The American People have spoken. A very final verdict.
About this business of “war hawks” - wasn’t Liz Cheney the daughter of war hawk Dick Cheney supporting Kamala ? Dick Cheney who beat the drums for Baby Bush’s Iraq war…
We are now facing the absurd situation in which peacemaker Trump has begged Putin to please lower the temperature a little by not escalating the military operation in Ukraine; and at that point what does Sleepy Joe Biden do ? In the less than two months that he has remaining as POTUS, post-haste , he thinks that’s the window of opportunity for him to send as many weapons as he possibly can -at great cost to the American taxpayer for Zelensky to unwisely do what Sleepy Joe is himself afraid and incapable doing, i.e. to start attacking Moscow with US / NATO supplied weapons - another instance of “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread “

Iran is lucky that Obama had Vali Nasr ( the son of Seyyed Hossein Nasr ) as one of his chief advisers on Iran, during the most turbulent period of his presidency
This much is certain : Iran may attack Israel once again in a big way in the dying days of the Biden -Harris presidency, but I doubt it.
However, there’s little doubt that Iran would not attack Israel from the moment that Trump begins his next term in the Oval Office.
In my view, Iran not attacking Israel should signal a cease-fire and the beginning of the possibility of peace in the Middle East
