First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Igboland. I cannot even begin to imagine what it would feel to like to have mass killings and rapes in a place that I would want to call home. I think the steps they have taken such as establishing a surveillance and intelligent unit are huge leaps forward. I also believe that until these heinous acts of violence slow down, the people in the community should bear arms and be mindful of the situation at hand. Once lives are lost and women are raped, it is time to take matters into your own hands and protect the loved ones around you. Gathering groups of volunteers across the land is a great step forward and my hope is that these killing will come to a hault.
a. The regular slaughtering of a specific group of people is something that necessitates immediate action. The Herdsmen raping and killing is something that cannot be allowed to continue, and it is good to see the local government take action. Surveillance units will hopefully help to deter further attacks, although I wonder if it will be enough. With their backs up against the wall, I think the Igbo people have no choice but to take up arms against these vicious assailants.
