You have long earned our deepest respect and admiration! In fact, my legendary iconic Yoruba mentor of the 1960s (Baba Ijebu) used to say in the mid-1960s about retirement: "Some people retire to un-retire!"  Therefore, while congratulating you on deciding to join what Distinguished Professor (Nana) Ali A. Mazrui of blessed memory called "Exclusive Emeritus Club" (when I became emeritus at Indiana University), I can assure you that your retirement will happen on the celebratory week. After that, you will see your most fruitful and busiest life, just as most of us (of the "Exclusive Emeritus Club") are enduring in our 70s and beyond! The time now, for example, is a little over 1:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Yet, I am up sitting supremely in-front of my "machine gun" (computer). I have, indeed, "retired to un-retire", thanks to my sagacious Baba Ijebu for his wise words! When Yvette and I arrive soon in Ghana, land of sunshine, pageantry and fire, we will remember to send some colorful post cards to you (for retirement-cum-un-retirement) as well as to Brother Folu and Sister Nwando of your MSU neighborhood, which was recently rocked by those sad events that "consumed" -- like a hurricane -- your campus' long-term President and sitting Dean Strampel!! Again, Yvette and I I join the congratulations galore!!!
