I am a Christian, I am Babaláwo and an Alhaji declared His Majesty, the Aláàfin of Òyó Oba Adéyemí III today while answering questions on the Toyin Falola Interviews.

Oba Adeyemi traced the influence of Christianity on his education right from the early stages to his adult life.

Ikú Bàbá Yèyé narrated how while maintaining his faith as a Muslim, he participated in the choir in the palace of the Aláké of Ègbá land.

His Majesty said the tenets of all the religions have helped to shape his life and to build a stronger character, and advocated for a mutual coexistence of all the religious faiths in the Nigeria.

In essence, the Alaafin epitomizes Ali Mazrui's thesis of the triple heritage. The question, however, is this: how has the monarch utilized his "ecumenical" worldview to bring about confraternity among his people who are still divided along the religious line? Just curious!

i couldn't attend the interview, but would love to read it, following toyin f's strong recommendation.
it occurred to me that religious differences can result in either positive or negative results. the negative is something like boko haram which is intolerance. islamic, christian, traditional religions: which are better? the answer favoring the one over the other verges on intolerance.
but in all three one can take the model of the alafin as the positive one of finding good sides in every religious tradition.
i think when we teach the alafin's model ought to be the teaching model. show the students the wonders of each religion, celebrate it.
