The Ondo State Government has approved the appointment of Professor Nahzeem Oluwafemi Mimiko as the new Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria. This followed the recommendation of the Governing Council of the State-owned University following its interaction with the 14 candidates who applied for the top job from across the nation in which Professor Mimiko came first. He is a member of the USA-Africa Dialogue.

In a release on December 23, 2009 by the institution's Acting Registrar, Bamidele Olotu, the University noted that until his appointment, Professor Mimiko was Head, Department of Political Science, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He was also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Social Sciences, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, USA, where he taught Comparative Politics in the Spring Semester, 2004. He is a Fulbright Scholar and winner of the United States Army Public Service Award. Professor Mimiko, 49, has authored more than 60 publications. He is Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Policy Initiatives; and Convener, African Research Initiative. The news that Professor Femi Mimiko has just been appointed  Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State, Nigeria, is a confirmation that merit still counts in Nigeria. As a great professor and former Deputy Vice Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor of that university, he is certainly qaulified to head the institution. Anybody who knows this dynamic professor of Political Science/International Relations will recognise his versatility and brilliant disposition. Soft spoken but extremely intelligent, Femi is one of the new generation of African scholars that I respect. He is one of the promising African intellectuals with international recognition that make us proud. He has administrative experience and exposture that convince one that this appointment is merited and gives one the hope that he will succeed in piloting the affairs of that university. No wonder he emerged favoured among 14 contestants. Indeed there is the right time for everything.

Femi, congratulations and may God be with you in this new assignment.

Professor Mary E. Modupe Kolawole.
