Preamble:
Central Nigeria's socio-economic and political developments, particularly within the North-Central geopolitical zone from 1960 to 2024, are deeply intertwined with broader national dynamics and local peculiarities. Central Nigeria is made up of several states, including Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau. The region is ethnically diverse, hosting a mix of ethnic groups such as the Tiv, Idoma, Nupe, Ebira, and Berom. These groups have historically navigated complex relationships with the federal government, local authorities, and between themselves.
From 1960 to 2024, Central Nigeria has witnessed significant socio-economic and political changes. The region has experienced the challenges of military rule, democratic transitions, state creation, ethnic tensions, and economic stagnation. While there have been moments of political and economic progress, security challenges and persistent poverty remain critical issues. This conference will look at the region's development to address these deep-rooted challenges and propose ways of fostering peace and implementing sustainable economic reforms for the region.
This event is organized to celebrate Falola's 72nd birthday and his vast contributions to African history while addressing the challenges and opportunities in Central Nigeria.
Participation: This is strictly by invitation only.
