Deji Adeyanju Hospitalized, As Thugs Backed By The Nigerian Police Attack Peaceful Protesters.

The plan was a peaceful match to the Office of the National Human Rights Commission located at No 19 Aguiyi Ironsi street Maitama Abuja, by the Concerned Nigeria Group led by Deji Adeyanju.

But what was meant to be a peaceful protest by the group, aimed at drawing to the attention of the commission the continued incarceration of Nigerians even against court orders, turned into a showdown as thugs attacked the protesters, while the men of the Nigerian police looked on.

A situation which resulted in some casualties, prominent among them the convener of the group Mr. Deji Adeyanju who sustained serious injuries.

This is not the first time peaceful protest against the actions of the Government, was met by a counter protest by some hired thugs.

With the level of hunger in the land, hiring counter protesters seems a lucrative business to many, as there are many available men and women ready to do the bidding of the man with enough money to buy their conscience.

For a country like ours where our democracy is continually threatened, there is need to always hold government to account, and this should be done without any form of intimidation.

Peaceful gathering/association is a right enshrined in the constitution.

“The price for freedom is eternal vigilance”

Nigerians should be resolute in their demand for a better country, for evil thrives when good people elect to do nothing.

his alleged peaceful protest are under the covered of the police as you
reported, and were not hired thugs. If they were, the burden of proof is on
he/her that assert to the contrary.

If you insisted that they were hired thugs, can you or anybody tell me
who hired them? And how much were given to each of them to carry out the
ugly assault? And were you there when the person hired them and the venue
where the meeting took place with the alleged hired thugs?

However, if they were hired to assault him and his conduct were
peaceful, i condemned the act and the person that hired them along side
those that were hired and must be brought to book to squarely face the full
wrath of the law.

On the contrary, will i be correct to say that he was also a hired thug
and who hired him to hide under the umbrella of activism to protest against
the arrest and detention of the convener?

To me and base on my assessment, it was a Counter protest and perhaps
something goes wrong between the two groups resulted to the assault.

Freedom to demonstrate is enshrined in the constitution, but permit must be sought from the police authority so as to prevent rowdiness and public disorder. So, did Mr. Adeyanju and others obtain the permission of the police authority before embarking on protest?
