Ayo Olukotun Annual Memorial Lecture and Prize, January 13, 2025

Dear all:
On January 13, 2025, we will be inaugurating the Annual Ayo Olukotun Memorial Lecture (poster attached). I have volunteered to be the first speaker. A suggestion is that the date for the subsequent event, from 2026, should coincide with his birthday in May. In addition, we will be inaugurating an annual prize in his honor, Ayo Olukotun Best Prize for a graduate student in International Relations/Political Science.
As both will be in perpetuity, the fund is deposited at Lead City University, where he served as a Professor and Dean. The initial fund to start the prize has been deposited. The first recipient in December will receive a prize of N100,000. As the fund grows, it will pay for the annual memorial lecture.
For the first one, the Chair of the Ceremony is the distinguished Olorunimbe Mamora. We cannot thank him enough for accepting.
The event on January 13, 2025 will comprise brief testimonies by family members, the Lecture, lunch for all students in attendance, lunch for all those in attendance. Beverages will be served, including palm wine, which is Ayo’s favorite drink.

Dear all:
The first prize will be awarded this year during Lead City's convocation ceremony. The money for the prize has been deposited to cover the next ten years and more, and I will add to it each year. When the university informs me, I will let you know who the winner is. I have not gone on any serious fund solicitation as we process affection and memory in different ways.
If I get hold of all his papers, they will all be republished in one big volume and distributed for free.

The management of Lead City University has announced that the school will reopen on January 27, 2025. Only essential services are possible before then. As staff and students will not be on campus on January 13, we were advised to postpone the conference until a later date.
Apologies to the Organizing Committee and those who have agreed to be at the event.
There is a will…an abundance of will, and then a way…the way forward in the new year.
