GEJ NEBUCHADNEZZAR? WOLE SOYINKA MUST NOT HAVE MET TINUBU. 

I have written so much about Soyinka since Amaechi put a little something in his daughter's belly (as alleged) that I am hesitant to write more. A legend is a legend is a legend, even when alzheimer has suspectedly set in. Even when needed progesterone is no longer manufactured by the body, we must, we must be respectful to the old and decrepit. We must remember the young lascivious Wole Soyinka that wrote the raunchy "Lion and the Jewel". That Soyinka, we must continue to honour. This one these past three years is a little too fixated on providing for the young wife and children, a good and honest fear, especially as one's books no longer sell. 

The same Soyinka that wrote Gani Fawehinmi to cease exposing Tinubu, for the good of the Yoruba nation, he said, is today supporting Amaechi to do same to his fellow Niger Deltan. Ok, isorai. Others should scatter, while his own people unite. ISORAI!!

On the Nebuchadnezzar claim, being a Sango or is it Ogun worshipper, he may not remember well the characteristics of King Nebuchadnezzar, as written in the Bible. He will not know that Tinubu is so Nebuchadnezzar, it is a hand and body that is required to write the MENE MENE TERKEL UPHARSON. 

We may need to remember some characteristics of Nebuchadnezzar. 
1. He required everyone to worship the same God, which he constructed and which Shadrach Meshach and Abednego refused to bow to. When has GEJ asked anyone to worship his own God? The only person who has required that is Buhari who said "Sharia law should be enforced throughout Nigeria" and it is he who also said "we must vote only those who defend Islam" GEJ goes to his Israel or kneels in the altar of his God in Redeemed. It is he who joined Muslims to fast during Ramadan and it is he who has ensured Muslim kids read the Qoran and get good education. Unlike Nebuchadnezzer, he is not throwing any youth into any fiery furnace. 
Tinubu on the other hand is telling youths "rig and roast" which is simply, worship another politician by voting him and roast. To quote Buhari in 1984 on rigging "It is politicians who lose that complain of rigging. Everyone tries to rig"

2. Nebuchadnezzar agreed that people should not pray to their God for 30 days. Anyone who did was thrown to the lion. GEJ can never do that. Only one person requires people to "pray to him". He is the be all and end all. He is the alpha and omega of Yoruba politics. Even the Kings of Yoruba are "useless Kings". He alone is King. He is to be worshipped. 

3. Nebuchadnezzar as a King is interested in his successors and they are his family members. In fact, the name Nebuchadnezzar is Akkadian for "God preserve my first son.". Tinubu is not interested in only preserving his first son, it is his wife, daughter, in-law, nephew, gateman etc that he has extended to. Even in Bayelsa, none of GEJ's family is running for office. There is no primogeniture. Yet it is GEJ that Wole Soyinka, considers Nebuchadnezzar.

4. Nebuchadnezzar was filled with desire to expand his Kingdom. He fought was so as to spread to Egypt etc etc. Today, we all know GEJ did not jostle to increase his Kingdom. Like Jabez, it is God who expanded it from Deputy Governor to President. With Tinubu, we all see his attempt to annex lands and spread his Kingdom. Like Nebuchadnezzar's political marriage to Amytis of Media, daughter of the Median king, Tinubu has tied the nuptial knot with Buhari of CPC in the strangest bromance in Nigeria's history. well, only difference is in Tinubu and Buhari's case, we wonder whose anus is or will be shafted. Time will tell. But remember, Tinubu's forays into politics of Anambra, Imo, Port Harcourt, etc are more Nebuchadnezzar than anything GEJ has done. 

5. The God of GEJ we know to be the christian God. That of Nebuchadnezzar and Tinubu we know to be exotic. While Nebuchadnezzar builds shrines of worship, Tinubu calls people to go to those shrines and get powers

Soyinka will not see Tinubu. He will not see THE LION OF BOURDILLON. He spends so much time in Rivers state, it blinds him to the activities of things in his West. hence he does not know that his beloved Tinubu is so Nebuchadnezzar. 

For those who say Tinubu is merely reaping the fruits of his labour, hence no Nebuchadnezzar remeber Nebuchadnezzar kept all the spoils of war to himself. I dare to ask if Tinubu created himself politically, or did he also have a benefactor? 
Where is the benefactor today? Did Awolowo put all his relatives and in-laws in government? So none of Fashola's family members or even he, is fit enough for another elective position? Is it the Tinubus that are the Royal Family of Lagos? 
Growing up, I used to hear that "you cannot try that in Lagos. They are too educated." Well, apparently, the Lagosian is turning out to be rather befuddling. They know Tinubu is turning public properties to his. He is doing the theft maskless, and in broad daylight. He is installing his family in the worst example of nepotism ever. Yet the Lagosian will come on this status and say "NO TINUBU, NO LAGOS" (Check my previous post for such a declaration.)

Well, I know Nebuchadnezzar's, son of Nabopolassar, and if there is any Nigerian politician that should be called Nebuchadnezzar, it should be Tinubu...or even Obasanjo. But then, Amaechi his in-law, have nothing against these two autocrats. It is GEJ he fights. So GEJ, the quiet, unassuming, forgiving, peaceful, much maligned and insulted man, is to Soyinka, Nebuchadnezzar. To quote Soyinka's obsession, PAtience Jonathan "there is God oooooohhhh"

For those unfamiliar with Nigerian politics, Tinubu is the head of the APC,the main opposition party to Jonathan's ruling PDP

Contrastive views on Soyinka in relation to being politically partisan are reflected in this later exchange on the thread

Are you so easily amused? Yes, I’ve read Ena Ofugara’s “I love Professor Wole Soyinka”, some of his other essays, shorti story-tellings and satirical nail-biting. I guess that if he approached the mighty Crocodile Goodluck Joe in the same way, Doyin Okupe would probably have him hanged / executed for slander and defamation of Character  -  all men being equal of course, but some men being more equal than others, especially in the hierarchical system of things where you have one who is First Citizen and the others who are “all the rest” – the set up that often leads to sycophancy and hack writers, and at the highest point people laying flat on their bellies beseeching  the power that be or praying to he  - the oga that sitteth at the peak of the pyramid, for please ai beg, just one of those oil blocks...  

That was some much undignified commentation on our Nobel Laureate in that first paragraph. So you think that piece of rudeness was some “super” sniper verbalism, rich in literary and political value?  Then you ain’t seen anything yet -  as the man said, “I hate a wasted journey”; but with the indulgence of the USA- Africa dialogue series moderator - and he doesn’t have to lower the bar - with permission granted, you may lean back and relax for the counter-attack and enjoy some purpose-fulness, with no holds barred still in decent language. However, before I start I’d just like to make this one correction,  re – “The same Soyinka that wrote Gani Fawehinmi to cease exposing Tinubu, for the good of the Yoruba nation, he said, is today supporting Amaechi to do same to his fellow Niger Deltan.” :

fellow Niger Deltan sure,  but just as sure there are the Egba people, so Chibuike Rotimi  Amaechi is Ikwerre from the upland and not Ijaw ( from the Riverine

Therefore it is a deliberate lie to say that Tinubu is the head of APC. Having built the foundation of his composition on lies, Ena Ofugara went further to suggest that, characteristically, Tinubu is more like Nebuchadnezzar, the Biblical Tyrant, than Jonathan. In order to debunk that lie, one needs to know the position of Nebuchadnezzar in history before extrapolating his character to either Tinubu or Jonathan. According to the Bible, Nebuchadnezzar was the King of Babylon who conquered and destroyed Jerusalem and exiled the Jews to Babylon. His tyranny so angered God that He turned him into an animal that walked on his four legs to eat weeds in the forest. It is incontrovertible that Jonathan is the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria just as Nebuchadnezzar was the King of Babylon. Tinubu, as of today, is only a member of National Executive Committee of APC while Jonathan is the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is Jonathan who is in a position to  exercise, and is really exercising, the  tyrannical power of Nebuchadnezzar as enunciated by Soyinka. Even in politics one has to keep to the truth!!
