I am delighted to amplify the great news that Professor John Mukum Mbaku,
professor of Economics, at Weber State University, Ogden, Utah, will at the
139th Commencement Exercise on April 20, 2012, receive a Presidential
Distinguished Professor Award.
Professor Mbaku was a founding member of the African Studies and Research Forum
(ASRF) along with Professors Julius O. Ihonvbere, George Klay Kieh, Jr., Pita
Ogaba Agbese, Joseph Takougang, Bennett Ade Odunsi and I. He served as
President/Chair of the ASRF for 13 years during which time he worked assiduously
and unselfishly with members of this group, other distinguished colleagues who
joined us later and African scholars in the continent, to produce numerous books
and articles in our disciplines. Moreover, he was for many years an
indefatigable Associate Editor (Africa) of the prestigious Journal of Third
World Studies (of the Association of Third World Studies). In that capacity, he
edited award-wining articles published in this journal. For his spectacular
contributions to the literature in African studies and leadership, he has
received numerous awards.
It is with humility that I extend my congratulations to Professor Mbaku and his
family on this special recognition.
Ike Udogu,
Former Director of Research and Publication
African Studies and Research Forum
Government & Justice Studies
Appalachian States University, Boone, NC. USA
Your commitment and dedication toward the advancement of knowledge and research have been recognized. Thus, I am proudly sending you my sincere congratulations for your achievement.
You deserve it.
Best regards.

Though I have not been priviledged to meet Professor Mbaku in person (and I hope this will happen one day), my interraction with him through his outstanding scholarship speaks volume about the depth of his intellectual prowess and unalloyed devotion to the profession. I was priviledged to be commissioned by AFRICA to review his coedited book, Africa at the Crossroads: Between Regionalism and Globalization. A master piece, I must say. I hereby join others to congratulate him on this well-deserved award.
