I feel sad at the news of the passage of Prof. Segun Oladipo, an intellectual giant, who made invaluable contribution to the development of African Philosophy as an autonomous field in the league with Western Philosophy. We would do his memory good by continuing in the effort to advance African Philosophy as an independent study within the enterprise of philosophic across the globe.
If there is a consensus on Greek philosophy, Western philosophy and Oriental philosophy, so why not African philosophy?
Back in the University, I was challenged by the logic of proponents of African Philosophy as Kwesi Wiredu, Peter Bodunrin, K.C Anyanwu, B.C Okolo, Innocent Onyewuenyi, Abiloa Irele among others. These patriots choose the path of promoting African philosophy as our contributions to the body of knowledge. Through their works they demonstrated in all material particular that there is an African Philosophy, which inherently has all branches of philosophy – metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and logic.
Prof. Oladipo’s did his generation proud through scholarship in Nigeria, Africa and beyond. May his soul rest in peace!

The year 2008 ended with the death of Dr. Femi Fatoba, distinguished Theatre practitioner, teacher from our own UI, who was as at then with the Niger Delta University.
Now it is the sad news about Prof. Segun Oladipo, a man committed to the nurturing and growth of the younger generation of scholars who came his way. What a way to end another year.
As the brain behind that publishing house along UI-Orogun-Ojoo road, he helped so many ideas crystallize into many a magnus opus. He will indeed be missed!
I cannot agree more with Dr. Oha in his terse tribute.
May his gentle soul find prefect rest in the bossom of the Almighty. May God give his family the fortitude to bear the sudden loss.
