Not jumping the gun : Will the result of the referendum/s be binding?
Any proposals yet about mapping out where the Independence Referendums should be held?
All the states in the federation? Which states in the federation? The Referendum Map of Nigeria
I imagine that in e.g. Abia State, the Abians should be required to think twice before casting their referendum ballot by which they answer this question about their future: "Do you want to leave Nigeria or do you want to stay, yes or no?" If the resounding result is "no" in some of those ethnic enclaves and " Yes" in some others, what happens next?
As we all know, a nationwide referendum or local referendums on regional secessions/ independence could prove to be a complicated and costly affair. The heated propaganda on both sides, those for unification, unity, staying united as one country , and those for secession, regional autonomy/ independence , would not be necessarily peaceful where there are very mixed ethnic populations. I can hear the loudspeakers blaring songs of freedom, Phil Collins singing “Another Day in Paradise “, violent clashes, here and there, some religious frictions, there and here…
I read this post, Patriotic Songs ( about the United Kingdom) and can't help thinking of Nigeria thriving best under a constitution that makes her “ The United States of Nigeria”
